What laws protect whistleblowers?

As discussed previously on this post, employers have an obligation to ensure state and federal laws are being enforced in their workplace. Minneapolis employees rely on this premise when they come to work every day-the fact that their employers are adhering to all the relevant laws and creating a safe and discrimination free work environment. When this does not happen, perhaps the only way the relevant authorities will become aware of the situation is if someone will draw attention to it. Employees who report violations of the law in their workplace are known as whistleblowers and laws are in place to ensure they are protected once they take these actions.

The human body is a marvel. With so many systems and functions that must work together to keep a person alive it is a miracle that so many people get through each day without illness, injury, or other physical harm. Each day Minnesota residents of all abilities go to work and do their best to accomplish their jobs despite the issues or problems that they may have going on within them; under the law, employers may not discriminate against employees for a variety of reasons, some of which are gender, sex, and disability.

Are sexual harassment laws in the workplace set to change?

When an employee has to choose between paying rent and being able to purchase food, and being sexually harassed and stalked in the workplace, there is a definite problem that employers need to address. Sexual harassment, hostile work environments and retaliatory behavior has been highlighted many times across the country in the wake of the #MeToo movement and Minnesota is also taking steps to address pervasive unacceptable behavior in the workplace.
